I'm so excited to be taking the boys to what I'm sure will be another fabulous Lexington Children's Theater production tomorrow night! Cow's Don't Fly and Other Known Facts is based on books by local author Paul Brett Johnson!
(Now, I reckon you already know Miss Rosemary; but if you don’t, I’m sure you will. Miss Rosemary has a small farm where the animals aren’t ordinary but extra-Oink-inary! Now, Miss Rosemary always encourages individ-Moo-ality, but there’s work to be done on the farm. Well, Miss Rosemary better figure out something fast, because these farm animals are sure to turn her world Honk-side down.)

In this clever retelling of a classic fairy tale, Ponyella longs to show Princess Penelope her fabulous leaps and jumps at the Tippington 25th Annual Grand Royal Pony Championship. But with a little help from Ponyella's fairy godmare, her coat becomes marshmallow white once again, and her mane silky and beautiful. It's love at first sight for Princess Penelope and Ponyella - but what will happen when the magic runs out at noon?

Her Knight Father/Daughter Dance
Her Knight is an unforgettable evening for girls age 2 years to 5th grade to spend with the special "Knight" in their lives. The event takes place at the Signature Club of Lansdowne on February 25th. Tickets are on sale now.
The goal of Her Knight is to help the fathers in our community develop strong relationships with their daughters. It is an easy way for the dad to be the "knight in shining armor" for his daughter.
Realizing that some young girls may have another person who fulfills this role in their lives, Her Knight is open to uncles, grandfathers, godfathers and other special "Knights".
Her Knight is organized by a volunteer group of women in Central Kentucky who are passionate about strengthening families.
The funds raised from the sale of tickets to Her Knight go to support a local non-profit in our community. Proceeds from the 2011 Her Knight will benefit Assurance Care Center.
To help the evening flow smoothly, there will be three available time slots for the event: Group 1: 6-7 pm, Group 2: 7-8 pm, Group 3: 8-9 pm
Cost: Tickets are $50 each. Each ticket includes admission for one father/knight and up to two (2) daughters, dancing, food provided by Chick-fil-a, photo from the evening, keepsake picture frame and gift bag. Each additional daughter is $15. Tickets are now on sale! Scholarships are available.
Attire: Party attire suggested. Fathers/knights are encouraged to wear a coat and tie. Girls are encouraged to wear their favorite party dress. Where there is a need, dresses from our scholarship closet are available.

Do You Ski?
It's been ages since I've been skiing but I do love it! It's a great family activity and there are some great ski trips within just a couple hours drive of Lexington! (And some really good spots if you venture into WVA!)
Here are links to some nearby ski spots! (Don't forget most have tubing as well!)
Paoli Peaks (So. Indiana 126 mi. from Lex)
Perfect North Slopes (So. Indiana 93 mi. from Lex)
Winterplace (Outside Beckley, WV)
Snowshoe (WV - farther away than Winterplace)

SNOW????
Remember, if local schools are out some activities will probably be cancelled as well. Check local TV stations for announcements about closings or call the site where the activity is being held to be sure it's still on! Stay safe friends!
Snuggle up with a winner!
The new 2011 Caldecott and Newberry Award winners were announced. The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children published that year. The John Newbery Medal is a literary award given by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association (ALA). The award is given to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
It's a great time to snuggle up with a book since the weather is cold and snowy. Take time to visit a nearby library and check out one of the new winners or any great book!

MLK, Jr. Day of Service
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is: 'What are you doing for others?'"
You can answer that question by volunteering on the King Holiday at God's Pantry Food Bank. We are looking for 40-50 individuals (age 13+) who can sort food drive donations and repack bulk food product. These are fun activities and a great way to meet new people! Volunteers should be able to stay all four hours.
Note: Schools are closed on January 17, so this is perfect opportunity for students in need of community service hours!
To sign up, contact Hillary Bullock at (859) 288-5323 or hillary@godspantry.org. Please include your name, date of birth, home address, and phone number.

Kid's Place Adventure Playground
If you haven't checked out Kid's Place yet it's a great place to play - especially when the big kids are in school and you have a preschooler who is ready to get out of the house! They have a few areas designed for smaller kiddos and of course lots of climbing and jumping for your PreK's! There are some arcade games and some small ride on token operated things. We'd take a dollar and do a few games but we stuck to the play area! The site has coupons available to print as well as all the info about hours and pricing. Also, if you are an LAC member you can add your child onto your membership and get FREE admission!
